Sushi Chef Sushi Making Kit

So, this review was actually planned but finding the time to get this up was a nightmare almost, but on a day off from work and home alone, I found the time to make this, which was actually 3 hours. This one i've really liked doing minus the fact that i nearly burnt my nose on Wasabi. But the long video review is below.

You can buy it HERE if you like.

The outer Box.

Now this has a sophisticated design which the box really does show off what is included as well as extras that would suit the kit very well. The back has tiny ingrediants sticker which makes all the difference with how presentable the thing is and it makes it look like its a need to ignore. Also the sides of the boxes are pretty basic minus a EAN code and Importer to join an oct 2017 expiring sticker.

The top of the box

The sides of the box

The other side feat stickers

The bottom of the box has a ingredients list which is actually quite tiny

Unwrap a sushi kit

With that in mind, it was time to unbox the thing and see whats inside, which was a sealed range of bits that were ideal to make sushi such as:

  • Bamboo Rolling Mat
  • Rice Vinegar
  • Rice Paddle
  • Sushi Vinegar
  • A cookbook
  • Wasabi Powder
  • Ginger
  • Nori Rolls
  • Dark Soy Sauce
Which it was layed out in a nice position in the box, it worked in a nice way, which allowed me to get the items out in a neat way. Maybe the book was bent but it still was packaged nicely.

Lift the box up and this appears

Unpack it and this is the contents

for people that like the bright pics.

Making the required rice

Now i browsed the cookbook and it was quite full of information that was nicely detailed as well as the fact that there were a nice variance of recipies from traditional sushi to Japanese omelettes. There was one recipe that most things referenced, Sushi Rice. Now this was not as easy as it says and i improvised which worked reasonably well. To be honest the steps were a bit confusing with the wash and mix the rice but i'll simplify the recipe.

  1. Pour rice into a bowl, about 2 cups full
  2. Pour 2 cups full of water into same bowl
  3. Mix the contents with your hands and
  4. when water is really cloud, empty bowl into a siv (i tried) or strainer and then drain the water out.
  5. Pour the rice into the bowl
  6. Pour water into bowl
  7. Repeat steps 4 5 and 6 until there water is not cloudy or until you really cba to do it anymore.
  8. Put rice and water into saucepan that fits lit
  9. Put cooker hob on mark 3 or 4 (a medium heat).
  10. Let it boil for 10 minutes
  11. Raise the heat to high for 2 minutes
  12. Lower it back to med high for 10 minutes
  13. Put off hob and let it cool down with lid in for 10 minutes
  14. When cooler take lid off, get rice into a plastic container or bowl. plastic else the metal and vinegar make it dangerous to eat from the books hints.
  15. Use the paddle to ease the rice about until its smooth
  16. Pour some Sushi Vinegar on and keep paddling
  17. cover towel over it and let it cool.
  18. Done
So thats the basic steps which kinda of seems easy but it can take its time.
Step 3 mostly

whyen repeating step 3,4,5

Getting it steamed, before i realised i over did it

the finished result after paddling it and mixing the vinegar

To actually making a sushi Roll.

This was the fun bit, since its the part which is cool. Now this was the closest recipe i could find to a standard looking sushi meal in the book, the Cucumber roll. Which i changed cucumber to Salmon and didn't add the seeds since i didn't have any. Which this bit was quick and a simple way to sum it up was:

  1. Get a bowl
  2. Put 6 tbsp of water and 2 tsp of rice vinegar in the bowl, this becomes the sushi glue.
  3. get one nori roll, place it on the bamboo mat.
  4. Cut that roll in half so it looks like a rectangle or strip.
  5. Get your meat or cucumber.
  6. Cut that up into lengths that are no longer than the length of the roll.
  7. if you have more than the length, then that is used for repeated rolls.
  8. Dip your hands in the vinegar mix
  9. Get your hands in the rice bowl from earlier and make a tennis ball shape out of a handful
  10. Then place that on the roll
  11. flatten it out evenly, leave a gap near the edges
  12. Make a flat groove/grove in the middle, i used a knife.
  13. Get a bowl, put some wasabi power inside
  14. Fill that bowl with a bit of water, not much
  15. Mix the bowl until a paste appears
  16. trace a finger and glide it on the paste, aka scoop it with a finger.
  17. place the fingered paste onto the grove on the roll, this is like buttering a sandwich style thing.
  18. lay a strip of your chosen filler (salmon for me) in that grove, make sure its reasonably straight.
  19. Now start to bend the bamboo mat like a tidal wave to it makes it into a roll,
  20. Squeeze each end and centre.
  21. unwrap and all sorted.
Even though the roll didn't go around the full way, it was looking reasonably presentable which was nice, But for a beginner its a nice attempt.

Preparing the mat for the food

After rolling it, it sticks together

Then you cut it and it looks legit like sushi

Then it was actually tasting like sushi, maybe i didn't add soy sauce the first time but it was nice minus the fact i added too much wasabi and my nose was on fire, so much so i had to walk.

Then it was time to give it a rating. With that in mind

omracer's Rating: 6/10

The Good Points:

  • The presentation is john lewis style good
  • You get plenty of things for the kit
  • it does let you make sushi without buying much else as a whole
  • The cookbook is detailed
  • The value is pretty good

The Bad Points:

  • some of the recipes require things not listed.
  • The instructions for the sushi rice can confuse.
  • The time to do this isn't a quick meal style
  • This can make a messy sink and kitchen

And there you have it, a review of a sushi making kit. More reviews coming soon.

Schwartzkopf LIVE Color XXL 00A Absolute Platinum

So, i've been planning on doing this for a while and since my YT and Twitter Anniversaries are coming up, i think the week before was the best time to do it. So i was almost missing out on buying this due to working later than usual recently (like today i finished at 6pm).

Anyway i got this from Boots for £3.99 (it was a 2 for one offer but i'm not sure if 2 is needed), if you want to try this for yourself, pop there or if you like the amazon kind of thing, its better to be lazy and order without leaving the house.

Buying this from Boots after Work

Anyway lets get on to what it looks like.

The Packaging:

Well its extremely bold and vibrant, much like what the product is trying to do with your hair, Abbreviations like HD to catch your eye,  a cute romantic couple with the hair that should happen and in love, and bold statements about the small print "professional quality color". But the text around is massive, safety notices, ingredients, strength of the dye, contact details and more.

The front again,

The side with what it contains and something about LIGHT power (

The other side of the product, with contact details and safety

ingredients and barcodes at the bottom

The top of the box.
The back of the box, with more scientific
Well its interesting to see something i've mostly ignored for the first time, but its time to look inside and check whats in.

Time to peek inside:

Well theres some new things i wouldn't of expected to see, well more tubes than i thought as well as even blonde powder and other odd things. Also the glovers i might of gathered would be there.

From the pics, there are clearly so much text that it would be so hard to get this in a vlog.

Time to get it on

Well i got the gloves on, then squirted some on my hair and it was ok at first, there was a minor sting which reading the safety instructions, i should of stopped but i'm not a pussy kind of guy. So i kept going and then by 8:16, i stopped and let it sink in and should take affect, which i all honestly was a bit worried of why it wasn't, so i added the rest of the bottle, its was not too bad to get it shaken and in the bottle before putting it on.

A pic of the hair before i started

Now the cream is on it

This is halfway through the grace period

Then it was clear it wasn't as much

Well more was applied.

Then it got better

I was leaving it a bit longer and it starting showing a colour

A selfie with the possibly ginger style

After the shower

Well its better but looks ginger :)

This looks like the colour it should kinda be

the back of the hair

Well here it is, the final results

A clearer sign of the hair

The conclusion:

So it finally worked, it took over 2 hours to sort out but it finally looks different and actually it does change colour, maybe not the advertised colour but meh. With all this in mind:

omracer's rating: 5/10

The good points:

  • The value is good (under £5)
  • It does change the colour of the hair

The bad Points:

  • It can be scary with the safety notices inside the manual
  • it does look complicated to prepare
  • The colour is not as advertised (in this case from the pics)
  • The sign of stinging is supposed to mean a bad skin reaction, so i could be fucked for ignoring it later on, but typing this it felt comfortable

Well looks like i get to change my life from now as a new haired feeder
